Together We can make a difference
Jim Durkin for Town Council
Join me in building a brighter, more inclusive future for Narragansett. Together, we can address the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.
Rooted in Narragansett
My journey in Narragansett began on Durkin Drive, where I grew up surrounded by the warmth and camaraderie of our tight-knit neighborhood. My experiences in this town, from playing baseball at the Old Pier to working at local businesses and being a proud member of the first graduating class of Narragansett High School in 1977, have shaped my appreciation for what makes our community truly special. Holding a degree in accounting from Providence College and possessing in-depth expertise in construction, real estate, and hospitality, I am poised to tackle both the economic and social aspects of our town that our residents deserve. My dedication to Narragansett remains steadfast, and throughout my 65 years in this wonderful town, I have always experienced a strong sense of community. I am committed to maintaining its unique charm while enhancing the quality of life and fostering prosperity for all residents.
Some of my accomplishments
CAMP JORI PURCHASE
Town Council Member
In my first term as a council member an opportunity presented itself in purchasing the property that was Camp JORI (Jewish Orphanage of RI).
As a council we realized the need for consolidating and improving the recreational department. In addition, there was a need for affordable housing. The result is a 40 unit over 55 affordable housing complex, the Recreational Department headquarters, meeting space , a skating rink, summer camp, open space , pickleball and thanks to the Narragansett Historical Society, a beautifully renovated Windmill building.
NARRAGANSETT/URI COALITION
Town Council Member
As a town council we developed a new program with URI and Narragansett to get a forum for residents and authorities to improve the off campus college behavior. This resulted in rental registration and the orange sticker ordinance. I will push to re-establish this Coalition.
Taxpayer Guardian
Town Council Member
I served as the liaison on the school committee, collaborating closely with the superintendent to strategically eliminate the planned purchase of two new buses and the consolidation of associated routes, which ultimately resulted in significant financial savings for the town and its residents.
Narragansett Athletic Complex
Narragansett Resident
I Helped secure and raise over 1.2 million in private donations to build the Narragansett Athletic Complex at the High School, creating a premier facility that enhances our community’s athletic programs and supports student athletes in their pursuits.
Narraganssett Restorations
Narragansett Resident
Renovation of numerous historical homes and businesses, including our cherished personal residence, has helped maintain Narraganssetts unique architectural charm.
Other Accomplishments
I participated in the High School building committee focused on the renovation of the high school and collaborated with Bill Bivona to establish the park at the end of the Knowles Way extension.
My Proudest Accomplishment

One of my proudest achievements has been the successful extension of the bike path from Route 108 in South Kingstown to the Community Center in Narragansett, covering 0.8 miles, where the initial plans were set to conclude at Route 108, thereby greatly improving connectivity and accessibility for cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts in the region.
